RE: Charging House Batteries

Hello All, I apologize for my absence. In 2022 I had two strokes, so my quest for a T/C got sidetracked. Lots of rehab, lots of prayer, learned to rewalk, lots more of rehab. Now I’m back to work and taking my life back. I picked up a real nice Leer mid rise topper for $250. that fits my 2002 F350, same color, and looks sharp. Some are saying just use the 12V+ connector on my 7 pin trailer connector to charge the house battery(s) and others are saying buy a Honda generator, but I’m reading about DC to DC chargers /isolators and maybe even a solar panel while I’m gone camping / hunting and it’s sunny out. Anyway, I know this is the place to get solid advice, it’s all a new concept for me. I’m almost 61 so I’m wanting enough stored power for CPAP, cell phone, radio. and a few other small items. I’m thinking two 100AH batteries so I have 100 amps to use and only draw batteries down to 50%. Not really sure what I can run on 100AH for a 8 to 10 hour period. But it beats tent camping at my age?? I appreciate the help, Glenn you've gotten plenty of advise on solar and batteries I'll address your DC to DC and solar charger. I've been using Renogy combine unit for 4 years now with zero problems and would fit your needs, it's easy to install a has a simple setup all types of batteries here's a link to that unit....Renogy dc to dc/ MPPT solar charger https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Misc-Pictures/i-qfrLtC3/0/70d183c9/XL/20200116_131753-XL.jpg

RE: Ca emission control starting 2024

I have a 2007 F250 6.0 PSD and live in California. I've had to do a smog on my truck since I bought it new every two years. Here's a link to BAR ....Smog 2023 Carb board keeps changing the rules so see their website if your diesel is over the 14500 GVWR you guys have some different rules to go by.

RE: New tire option for us 17” SRW orphans

I'm looking at changing up from 17" to 18" steel rim for my 2007 F250 and finding it rather difficult in finding sources. I would like to get into the higher tire load range for my truck, so if you have any reliable source please let me know. Idk, googled it and several retailers popped up instantly. Don’t know what the difficulty could be? They did or still do have an 18” OE steel option. But fwiw, idk why you’d intentionally stick with the base model OE steel wheels. Unless personal preference of the look of them? You can find multitudes of takeoff wheels/wheels and tires in 18 or 20” for sale. Mostly nicer aluminum wheels as well. I should have added I only want to stay with steel rims and that's where the problem comes in. Plenty of forge/cast out there in 18" but the load rating isn't very high.

RE: First Trip through Canada & into Alaska - Many Questions!

Wife & I are planning our Alaska Adventure starting in June of 2025. I am all gung-ho, but my wife is reluctant to commit without asking those of you with experience how we should plan & what to look out for. BTW, we have a newer 2022 F-350 7.3L Gas Lariat SRW Supercrew 7.5' bed with 4:30 Axle & a 2021 Alliance Paradigm 310RL 35' 5th wheel with a smaller Solar package. 5th Wheel will be upgraded to the MorRyde IS and Disc Brakes before we leave. Questions: 1) Elevation - any concerns pulling with our gasser? Any mountain passes or other higher elevations we should avoid? 5ver weighs about 15,000lbs. fully loaded. Our truck handles it nicely here in the lower 48. 2) Any experience joining an RV Caravan & travelling as a group? Any thoughts about doing that verses winging it alone? 3) Should we carry extra auxiliary gas cans just in case? 4) Will (2) smaller dogs be a problem? We know about having their shots & papers with us when crossing into Canada. They usually love car trips. All responses would be helpful & appreciated! There are plenty of posted trip reports in the TCTR 3.0 on Alaska and Canada in the Truck Camper Forum. Many of your questions can be answered there. We're doing another journey in 2024 summer to Alaska, this will be our 3rd time so much to see!
